I am hoping to dear God that my thermostat on my '95 Lexus ES300 is working and that I just need to replace a cap/fill coolant.
Please let it be that.
Car's been going a bit above the middle lately and heater's taking a bit longer to kick in. Heck, the thermometer was inching close to hot when I sped up merging into I-5 - and then returned to the middle.

Thermostat is easy and cheap to change. What you should be panicing about is your water pump (generally should be replaced with each belt or every 60k miles) or weather your radiator core is corroded/clogged/damaged. I had the same thing on my 1JZ-GTE soarer and I ended up doing all three.

I drive on I-5 everyday, so if I had to guess, I'd say yuppies have sabotaged your radiator fan

The problem is, the thermostat on my ES is buried somewhere inside of the engine - underneath the battery and intake - as well as a lot of things. If it was a straight six (who makes a straight six Camry?!) that would be a different story.

I understand that you have the 3VZFE (F code for the economical head design) as opposed to the the straight six 1J I had in the soarer. The location is a little fiddly, but you can still get to it without major parts out type stuff. I used to work for Lexus, their not to bad to work on until you get to the GR series engines.

1MZ for me. It's a 1995, not sure when they stopped with the 3VZ for the ES.
